I'm very glad I did. Despite what some other reviewers have indicated, this current model works wonderfully and even in a mirrored raid has good response times. Of course the initial process of backing up and copying over data took a while but honestly, when running something in a raid configuration I'm not really expecting thumbdrive or SSD transfer rates. Considering it was transferring most of the data via wireless and in a raid configuration, it was fairly quick (approximately 5 hours from 4 systems simultaneously and a total of 200GB). Some may complain about this but I think those folks are expecting the unrealistic idea of copying from an internal 7200 RPM SATA to another internal 7200 RPM SATA. The reality is this was going over a wireless network and writing to 2 physical drives, not just one. So from my perspective... Read more 41 of 45 people found the following review helpful Watch out! Great until it fails., By Jack Straw (MN) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase This review is from: BUFFALO LinkStation Duo 2-Bay 2 TB (2 x 1 TB) RAID Network Attached Storage (NAS) - LS-WX2.0TL/R1 (Personal Computers) I have purchased 3 of these now, 2 of them broken on arrival and one lasted about 18 months. I liked it until one day I could not access it. It was powered off, so I turned it back on and got a message that there was a Raid Error. After looking into it and talking to tech support, they determined I had a bad hard drive. I could still see the files but was in degraded mode, meaning only one drive was working. The tech told me to get a new drive and put it in and select rebuild array in the control panel. I did this, but when it was done I got a message stating the array was not formatted. I declined to format and called back tech support. They walked mw through a couple steps and within about 3 minutes told me there was nothing else I could do and I would probably have to take my drive somewhere to see if it could be recovered. The tech sounded very nervous and told me they had not seen this before and it must be a firmware issue, and they apologized... I called Buffalo tech support and they advised me to and reset the device and update the firmware. That resolved the permissions issue. My only regret would be I didn't opt for the larger hard disks becasue I have the drives mirrored. other than that it's been about a week and no issues whatsoever. My only complaint is the drive access and cover should have been made a little more sturdy, that said the unit is quite and sleek looking. I noticed some reports in the Buffalo forum about Win 7 systems dropping the drive mappings but no such issues on my WinXP, Vista and Linux Ubuntu systems. I have local & remote access 24/7, I'm happy with my new NASUpdate: in May of 2014 the NAS failed and the Buffalo warranty was over so no help from Buffalo. It was great while it lasted.. That said I will not being buying another Buffalo NAS. I replaced it with a NAS I built from a used DELL computer with two 2TB hard drives in... Read more |
