| 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful  Great NAS, Verified Purchase This review is from: Readynas Pro 6 Unified Nas (Personal Computers) The Netgear Readynas Pro 6 is a fast, reliable storage platform that is fully compatible with Apple's timemachine.We have been amazed with the feature set and speed. We are able to back this unit up via SSH over rsync (using the BackupPC software suite). The Readynas is using Debian, internally, as its operating system. The backup speeds we are seeing over a Gbit LAN is between 50-60MB per second. This isn't megabit, this is megabytes per second. We populated the ReadyNas Pro with six Seagate Barracuda XT 3 TB (ST33000651AS) 5 year warranty drives which were on Netgear's hardware compatibility list. They seem to run cool and quiet even during a RAID scrubbing operation. After having the unit installed for a few months now, we are now getting ready to purchase a second unit. It was time, now, to upgrade for more disk expansion space and newer hardware. I was not disappointed at all. ReadyNAS / Netgear continues to make solid, reliable hardware. Transferring my data to the new box was relatively straight forward. I purchased the NetGear ReadyNAS Pro 6 Unified NAS from Amazon in the summer of 2012 along with two Western Digital 2 TB drives which I mirrored. I had wanted a NAS in the home office for quite some time to have a central place to store and share all of our music, personal documents, and huge HD home movies.After about a month of solid use, I woke up one morning to find I couldn't access the device from my mobile phone. You know that fun stage of getting new technology where it's the first thing you play with in the morning? I was still in that phase: Wake up and check my free disk space :) I moved over to my laptop and found that it was not responding to a ping (by name or IP), nor could the included software find any ReadyNAS on the network.
