(California) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase This review is from: Synology DiskStation 12-Bay (Diskless) Network Attached Storage DS2411+ (Black) (Personal Computers) I have 3 Thecus models (N5200, N5200 Pro and a N7700). I will compare the Synology DS2411+ to these. I use Network Appliance storage in my day job. First I purchased a Thecus N5200 for home use, then later the N5200 Pro and N7700 for some small workgroup level projects before the NetApp budget came through.The Thecus hardware was innovative at the time (compared to say the Buffalo Terastation, had one of those too). It supported a few additional modules (IP Cam, DDNS, etc). Thecus root/shell access is disabled by default, but much easier to obtain than the Terastation. I've never had a Thecus hardware failure in 12 box years of use, but I lost a RAID5 array due to simultanous drive failures once. Performance is tolerable, not outstanding. While advertised as capable of iSCSI (for virtualization) only mapped LUNs are presentable, no virtualization of LUNs. iSCSI performance wasn't great on the 5200 series. Read more 5 of 7 people found the following review helpful Great NAS Drive, By Verified Purchase This review is from: Synology DiskStation 12-Bay (Diskless) Network Attached Storage DS2411+ (Black) (Personal Computers) For this review I can't comment on all the features of this unit, which are many from Media Server to Camera Surveillance Station Recorder.We just use this as a File Server in a Windows Environment with Active Directory. The setup was very easy. Install your drives, I used the WD Caviar Green 3TB drives for my last setup - I have had no problems or issues with any drive I have used on several Synology NAS Drives we own. Plug the device into the network, load up the software it comes with onto your computer. The software will find the drive on your network and from there you can manage everything about the drive. From the Web Based Management Software I was able to join it to our Domain, create a share, assign it a Static IP Address and setup email notification for problems. I was also able thru a few simple clicks to tell it to go out on the Internet and update its Firmware; probably the simplest Firmware update I have come across yet. I didn't get...
