Two weeks ago it would not start up in the morning (I use the power schedule to turn it off at night). Nothing I could do that day seemed to be able to get it to power up, then two days later it started up like normal and was fine until this morning. I check the Synology forum and it appears the DS series NAS's have widespread complaints on not being able to power up and all indications point to a bad or inadequate PSU (brick power supply). Many folks reported once they got a better, larger capacity replacement power supply that all was well. Some folks got basically the same power supply as a replacement but it did not help in many situations.I really like this NAS and if the power supply issue can be fixed then it would be highly recommended. After 4 months [Updated Review on Dec 2011], it is still running well. Even on the maximum "cool" mode, the DS411+II runs very quietly. I had also considered the DS1511+, but opted for this DS411+II since it was only for home use and did not need hot-swapping capability. The biggest benefit of this system is the good software support from Synology with a steady flow of firmware updates. The USB-printer server also works well with my Xerox printer as well. 0 Be sure to keep the extra screws handy as you are installing the bare hard drives. In actually, I would give it 4.5 stars, since the Synology backup software would never work; however, I ended up using the backup software from Windows 7. I ordered the DS411+II and when it showed up it was DOA. The blue power light would flash 4 or 5 times and then the unit would power off. I contacted Synology tech support and they informed me that I needed a replacement unit. They're response was pretty fast as well. So, I contacted Amazon by phone and they sent a replacement, overnight.Even though I received a unit that was DOA, I still give this NAS 5 stars. Getting the DDNS, that Synology provides, to work was kind of a struggle. If you have a modem with a dynamic address connected to a router that controls your LAN, it is kind of hard to configure. With my 7MB DSL connection, I had to set the DSL modem/router to bridge mode and use my Netgear router running DD-WRT to control the PPoE authentication.
