Setup was simple, you need to see the forum for the tricks on speeding up raid creation. I used 4 Hitachi 2 TB drives in a Raid 5, it took about 12 hours to build the raid. Make sure you check the compatible drives list on the website. The external Esata connection is not a powered connection so you need either a powered ESATA dock or a cable that combines Esata and USB. Its just been running since I set it up. I have a spare drive on the shelf for my Raid and I have a drive I am going to use in a esata dock for backing up critical files. Its been running for 3 weeks now, I am happy with my purchase and have no complaints and would recommend this device. 20 of 23 people found the following review helpful By This review is from: Qnap Network Storage Server (TS-419PII-US) (Personal Computers) I've had this product for many months now with 4 x 2TB Samsung HD204UI(F4EGs) running in RAID 10. Like one of the other reviewers, I have a WD Live Streaming and this product works well with it as long as you use the most recent TwonkyMedia Server with it. My roommates are able to stream videos with ease and the device performs much better than I ever expected (from my PC over gigabit lan + ASUS RT-N56U makes for 60MB/s writes and roughly 90MB/s reads on RAID 10 which are the limitations of the drives and not the device itself). When I initially for this machine, I set it up in RAID 5 but was seeing somewhere around ~40MB/s and realized that such large drives take a long time to rebuild (tested this but forgot to enable the bitmap - which greatly reduces rebuild times). I then deliberated and finally settled on RAID 10 thanks to it's performance advantage (in most situations) and it's lower rebuild times (since no parity is calculated, rebuilds take roughly 6 hours for... I have a 409Pro, a 410 and now a 419PII. The software works well, and the performance on the 419PII is very reasonable with 38MB/s writes, 40MBs reads on gigabit with standard sized frames (no jumbo frames) Overall, no complains save for two BIG ones. 0 1. QNaps, at least for me, like blowing their cheap power supplies. 2. QNap support is non existent. So, if you do blow one, you'd better have ordered a spare supply ($130) directly from QNap. It may even work. But know you're totally on your own. This is a shame because the basic ideas and design concepts work very well, but the quality control just isn't that. It's a random buy. |
