Arrived in usual hassle-free Amazon packaging, paired with a pair of SATA III Seagate 7200 rpm hard disks (3TB each) Model ST3000DM001 (also bought from Amazon).If you haven't set up your Synology 212+ yet - take a moment to update the firmware on your hard disks BEFORE you install them in the 212+ (see "update" next paragraph). If you already have the drives installed and IF you are encountering troubles where the unit falls asleep and refuses to respond - follow the steps in the next paragraph - copy any mission critical files to an external drive FIRST though! =============update!! Be aware that if your Synology 212+ does not function as you expect it to, it may be something as simple as UPDATING THE FIRMWARE on your HARD DISKS! Read more 27 of 33 people found the following review helpful  Nice, but not usable for photos or videos, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Synology DiskStation 2-Bay (Diskless) Network Attached Storage DS212+ (Black) (Personal Computers) If you want to store your photos or videos, you will probably not be happy with a DS212+, DS212, or DS212j and should consider waiting for a newer model, as it is unusably slow for photo and video files.At a minimum, search the internet for "Synology DiskStation Thumbnails : slow slow slow" and read the over ninety postings on that forum thread first. My experience: I had heard the DiskStation DS212-series had a speed problem with backing up photos, and I bought the one with the fastest processor to fix that (the DS212+). It did not help. Upgrading to the latest DSM Disk Station Manager 4.0 software also did not help. What you can expect: if you copy photos to the DS212j, DS212, or DS212+, the system will become unusable for days to weeks every time you upload photos. This is because the DS212j, DS212, and DS212+ PhotoStation app requires its own special, extremely-slow-to-generate, photo thumbnail files and video compression files. As a consequence I bought a second DS when I needed one for a photo studio storage. To add icing to the cake , Synology has DS apps that make it so easy to access and view files on a mobile device. I am having a blast with ipad 3. In fact I am building an IPAD centric system for my photo studio - IPAD POS, and IPAD for client photo reviewing and selection! This puppy performs as designed and is worthy every penny.
