It's a non managed switch, so not really much to say about set up.
Plug in your Ethernet cables, plug in the switch. So simple a non-techie significant other could do it.
I was using a four port switch but with the addition of a networked TV, blueray player, apple tv... i was running out of available ports.
I ordered this and received the usual super fast shipping from Amazon. Packaging was excellent.
From the time I unpacked the switch to the time i was done (including moving the old 4 port switch over to the home theater area and plugging in the apple tv to stop using wireless) it took 5 minutes.
Yes there are cheaper switches out there, but since this switch is in a semi-visible area I wanted something that looked a little nicer. Having it come from Cisco is just an added bonus.

If you're looking for an 8 port switch, I would recommend the SE2800.

5.0 out of 5 stars A 2011 Manufactured Wired Switch Replaced My Router, October 27, 2011
By

I just replaced my old router, with this switch a week ago (Dated 2011 on the box), with no problems. There are five ports. I plugged in the ethernet cable from my modem in port 5 and used the other 4 ports for my computers (2 ports are active now - See picture - Blue is from modem).

I can access the internet with both computers at the same time. I have Time Warner Cable, with a strong signal. I am not sure, but I expect my cable company provides two IP addresses. My Yahoo research after buying this indicates a switch is not generally used (nor works) to access the internet with two computers and a router is needed, unless two IP addresses are provided by the internet provider (I can not confirm or deny this information - I found it on Yahoo) - Seems some good luck worked in my favor.

NOTE: I purchased mine at the local Walmart for the same price -(90 day return policy - no questions) - They have it on line too.

The switch seems to know that I... Read more

This review is from: Linksys SE2500 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch (Personal Computers)
I don't really get into configuring these things. I just wanted it to work and it did so right out of the box. I just plugged in the power and the ethernet cables without any additional thinking. It appears to know which cable is the uplink and takes care of everything automatically. My only complaint is that the activity status lights are on the back where the cables are. Having the blinking lights on the front would deliver more value to the user.
