Product Description
This one piece cable is used for connecting your computer's serial port to the RJ45 console port on most Cisco equipment. This rollover console cable has an RJ45 connector on one end and a DB9 serial connector on the other end. To use the cable you will connect the RJ45 connector to your equipment and the DB9 connector to the serial port on your computer.
This is the new style cable that replaces the old style "console kit" (rollover cable & adaptor). This cable is compatible with most Cisco equipment with an RJ45 style console port. If your equipment has a DB25 console port you will need the 4 piece console kit.

I'm including the info below just to clarify for anybody else who might be wondering / hoping: This didn't work our Sonic Wall TZ 210. We wanted to capture console output to send to SonicWall Tech Support. I found some pages online claiming that all these console cables cables were basically the same (RJ45 to DB9), and they certainly look the same! But sadly this isn't true. And then SW Tech Support confirmed that their cable is absolutely not the same as a Cisco cable. It's annoying because SW doc claims they include it in the box, but apparently that's only on the higher end models, and you can't buy one anywhere online. I figured at this cheap of a price, even if it didn't work it wouldn't be a big loss. The cable worked as advertised (well, it's not advertised for Fortinet products but it works). I would recommend this cable vs paying $25+ for the same cable elsewhere. I used this in conjunction with a serial to USB cable as my laptop does not have a serial port (Do any laptops have serial ports anymore?). |
