No Android app will ever find networks that underlying operating system cannot see. In this case, with beacon reporting turned off on the wifi router, most Android + Wifi chip drivers will not show the network unless you are connected to that router. A network with beacons off is still detectable. When there are packets being transmitted over it a full linux box with promiscuous-mode wifi and a program such as Kismet will log such a network. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By Mr. Staack (Illinois) - See all my reviews This review is from: Wigle Wifi Wardriving (App) I've gotten more new hits with Wigle on my Android phone, in a few weeks, than I did in whole years with my old car-top rig, because I always have my phone on me. It's so convenient to activate it, and start scanning new areas. Since my phone is surprisingly good at detecting wi-fi signals, I've been able to map out most of my neighborhood and the area around where I work, without really having to drive out of my way. Just through the natural process of going about my day, I've discovered so many networks. It's great being able to easily upload new data to the Wigle server, with just the press of a button. Of course, this drains the battery fairly quickly, so I generally only use it when I'm plugged in or will have a chance to recharge soon. 0 of 4 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Wigle Wifi Wardriving (App) Did nothing. I even knew the passwords for the accounts I wanted it to locate. I was searching for my brothers hidden wifi signal. didnt locate it at all. I tried to have it search my own MIFI signal, and it wouldn't even pick it up. Total waste of time.My brother laughed and said at least he knows his account is safe from such lousy software. |
